The automotive industry expands information protection to include the protection objective "Availability"

Cyber attacks on partners and suppliers in the automotive industry have in some cases massively increased in the past - with direct effects on vehicle production. Because if production material is not available as planned, this quickly leads to damage running into millions.

For this reason, the catalog of requirements for information and IT security, the VDA Information Security Assessment, which is used as a standard in the automotive industry, has now been expanded to include the protection objective "Availability". In addition to the partners in the automotive industry who come into contact with sensitive information, suppliers of series parts and production materials (P-suppliers) are now also in focus. They are requested to provide proof of compliance with the security requirements in the form of the new TISAX® label "Availability".

Every company that supplies parts and is therefore part of the extensive production process is affected - from the screw supplier to JIT/JIS suppliers who supply modules.

The aim is to ensure the availability of the IT systems. The companies concerned use the TISAX® label to prove that they have implemented all processes to ensure this. The purchasing processes of the automobile manufacturers have been adjusted accordingly and transitional periods have been defined for the suppliers.
